Carly Rae Jepsen really, really likes Tom Hanks! The “Run Away With Me” songstress sat down with HuffPost Live on Monday, Sept. 28, and revealed how she managed to get the Oscar-winning actor to star in her “I Really Like You” video.
“I’m a lucky woman!” she exclaimed. “I did have in mind for a while that I wanted to have a surprising male actor sing the song instead of me. I thought it would offset the sweetness with a bit of surprise.”
She went on to explain that her manager, Scooter Braun — who also works with fellow Canadian pop star Justin Bieber — is friends with the Bridge of Spies star, 59. “They were at dinner together and just kind of talking about what was going on in their carers and lives, and my name came up, and this concept came up, and by the end of dinner, somehow [Hanks] had been convinced,” the 29-year-old singer said.
Asked if there were any funny stories she could share about working with the actor on the video for the first single off her latest album, Emotion, Jepsen laughed, “Neither one of us really embraced that dance sequence, but we did it with gusto regardless! We’re like, ‘We don’t really understand the moves, it’s cold!’”
The songstress, who rose to fame with hit single “Call Me Maybe” in 2012, also said that Hanks toughed filming in the frigid New York weather to help make her vision for the video a reality. “I was feeling very guilty in my trailer with my hot chocolate, being like, ‘One more time, Tom! That was great.’” she recalled. “It was the easiest video I’ve ever been a part of, and the most enjoyable too because it was just so trippy to see him!”’
