Never forgotten. Christina Grimmie’s older brother Marcus Grimmie shared a touching tribute to his sister after she was tragically shot and killed following a concert in Orlando on Friday, June 10.
“By now I’m sure many [of] you have heard that Christina has passed away due to gunfire after a show,” he wrote via Facebook on Saturday, June 11. “I really don’t have much to say about anything and am just blown away with the prayers and support. I PROMISE I will respond to everyone when I can.”
He continued, “Christina was more than my sister. She was a partner in life. A superstar. A goofball. Introverted. And a friend to everyone. Genuinely. But above all … she was my baby sister. She loved the Lord and her family and was always there for me and I honest don’t know what I’ll do without her.”
Marcus also shared five photos of himself with the late Voice contestant, noting, “But please, if you are reading this far, I would love all and any of you to post pics of you and her and/or memories you have of her down in the comments. I will cherish it forever and always. So please do that for me. Thank you all so much. The support has been crazy and I do feel a peace. I just don’t have any words. I love you all.”
As previously reported, the 22-year-old singer was fatally shot by a 27-year-old gunman named Kevin James Loibl at the Plaza Live theater on Friday night. Marcus quickly reacted and tackled the St. Petersburg native, who then shot and killed himself.
During a press conference on Saturday morning, Orlando police chief John Mina called Marcus’ actions “heroic” and thanked him for preventing “further loss of life.”
Grimmie gained fame after she finished in third place on season 6 of NBC’s The Voice in 2014.
