Hugh Hefner’s widow, Crystal Hefner, has thoughts on Jon Lovitz’s joke about his alleged Playboy Mansion past.
“I think Jon Lovitz is part of the problem,” Crystal, 40, told Page Six on Wednesday, October 28. “I think many men who came up to that mansion [and] were very sexist and misogynistic are all part of that problem. If I could dismantle that toxic masculinity and patriarchy just a little bit, I will feel happy. It’s very sad.”
One day earlier, Crystal revealed that Lovitz, 69, had been the “Playboy Mansion’s No. 1 customer” — which the Saturday Night Live alum joked about when paparazzi caught up with him in Los Angeles.
“Anytime someone says I’m No. 1, it’s a compliment,” Lovitz quipped on Tuesday, October 27.
On Wednesday, Crystal recalled Lovitz publicly criticizing her in July after she said on Instagram that she regretted marrying her late husband in 2012. (Hugh died at the Playboy Mansion in 2017, five years after they tied the knot. He was 91.)
“Do you regret the house he bought for you to live in, after his death?” Lovitz commented on Crystal’s post. “And keeping the money, after you sold it?… And do you regret all he did for you?”
Crystal added to Page Six on Wednesday, “Jon Lovitz had mentioned to me that Hef had bought something for me or paid for something and that I have no reason to speak because of that. I think his thinking is very outdated. That’s really sad that, just because someone buys you something, it guarantees silence.”
Crystal and Lovitz’s back-and-forth began in the summer and was reignited on Tuesday during an episode of Lisa Guerrero Unleashed. On the show, Crystal recalled her followers defending her from Lovitz’s comments about her marriage to Hugh. (Crystal was the Playboy founder’s third wife; he was previously married to Millie Williams from 1949 to 1959 and Kimberley Conrad from 1989 to 2010.)
“He got completely attacked in my comments because women were like, ‘Oh just because someone buys you something, your own husband, then it means that they can assault you or hurt you?’” Crystal said. “I’m like, ‘Jon Lovitz, you were Playboy Mansion’s No. 1 customer. You were one of the biggest pervs there. Sit down!’”
Crystal recalled Lovitz being at the Playboy Mansion “all the time,” adding, “And his eyes would go front to back, all the women that walked through the door. And at the parties, he’d be the lurker. And I remember him every time, every party.”
