Dakota Johnson is intentionally tight-lipped about her love life.
“I am obsessed with people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing,” Johnson, 36, told Vogue in a cover story published Friday, September 18. “I’m far too porous and sensitive and present. I don’t — I can’t deal.”
The Verity actress has long kept quiet about her dating history before and after her breakup from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2025 after eight years together. Since then, Johnson has been romantically linked to both Role Model and MGK. (Us exclusively reported earlier this month that Johnson and MGK, 36, recently went on a first date in New York City after they “hit it off” at their mutual friends Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in July.)
When pressed about her current romantic status by Vogue, Johnson matter-of-factly replied, “I don’t want to say anything about that.”
Johnson, however, did acknowledge her history of dating musicians.
“They like me. I don’t know what to say,” she succinctly quipped, adding, “And I like them.”
When asked if there were any drawbacks of dating singers, Johnson jokingly noted that there’s “a lot” because such men can be “tricky motherf***ers.”
According to Johnson, she has now entered a new phase of life.
“I’ve worked back-to-back for so long that now I have this deep calling to shift my perspective a bit and maybe have a bit more of a real life,” she acknowledged to the fashion magazine. “I’ve been gone for, like, 20 years. The people in my life are so used to me leaving for months at a time.”
She continued, “I just want to be authentic. I want to unfold and unfold and really lovingly embrace this life.”
Among her dreams, Johnson hopes to one day become a mother.
“I really do [want to have children]. I didn’t expect to be this age and at this place in my life, but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe,” she told Vogue. “I would love that. I hope that that happens for me. I’ve always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through. I hope that I’m lucky enough to be able to do that.”
As for her dating life, The Materialists star previously revealed her non-negotiables.
“Like, not an a**hole,” she stated during a June 2025 appearance on the Today show.
