David Schwimmer has been focused on his role as Robert Kardashian in the upcoming FX miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, but he can’t escape Friends fever.
The former sitcom star, 49, recently reunited with four of his five Friends costars for a special tribute to TV director James Burrows. Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow all attended the taping, while costar Matthew Perry prepared for his London theater role in The End of Longing.
“Well, it was just lovely to be in the same room and to honor Jimmy, who we all really love,” Schwimmer told Entertainment Tonight of the event. “He’s a prolific director, and he really helped forge the cast as an ensemble and really clarified all those relationships from the get-go, so it was lovely to be there.”
Burrows, 75, has directed, produced and written for some of the biggest TV series of the last few decades, including Cheers, Taxi, Will & Grace, Frasier, Friends and Mike & Molly.
“For me, it was the cast of Taxi,” Schwimmer said of the series that inspired him. “Something about that show made me want to do this.”
These days, the former comedic actor is trying his hand at drama, playing the late Kardashian.
“I wanted to get it right, and luckily, I was able to speak to Kris Jenner for some time and really get to understand who he was as a father and as a husband,” Schwimmer said. “He was such a big, devoted family man. He was a man of great humility and faith and that played a major role for me in playing him.”
