Courteney Cox

Courteney Cox is a Golden Globe-nominated actress, producer and director best known for her role as Monica Geller on Friends. Cox spent her childhood in Birmingham, Alabama, where she attended Mountain Brook High School. She later attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C., briefly studying architecture before leaving to pursue modeling and acting. She began her Hollywood career appearing in various commercials and music videos, including Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.”

Cox’s early acting roles included appearances on television series like As the World Turns and The Love Boat before her 1994 breakout as Monica Geller on Friends. The sitcom became a cultural phenomenon and ran for 10 seasons before its 2004 series finale. The show established Cox as a household name and earned her multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations as part of the ensemble cast.

She went on to star in the Scream film franchise as Gale Weathers and led the long-running series Cougar Town, which she also produced. The show earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy. In 2026, she appeared in Scream 7.

Cox married David Arquette in 1999 after meeting on the set of Scream. The pair welcomed daughter Coco (born in 2004) before separating in 2010 and finalizing their divorce in 2013. She has since been in a long-term relationship with musician Johnny McDaid.
