Getting crafty! President-elect Donald Trump made a major fashion faux pas when he, or an assistant, apparently Scotch-taped the back of his favorite red power tie.
The businessman turned politician, 70, traveled to Indiana with V.P.-elect Mike Pence on Thursday, December 1, to visit the Carrier air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration company and convince them to keep jobs in the U.S. While exiting a plane, the duo encountered a huge gust of wind, which blew Trump’s tie over his shoulder.

A photographer captured the moment, which revealed that Trump had affixed two pieces of clear tape to keep it in place. Since the skinny end of the tie wasn’t tucked into the loop, the ex-Apprentice star decided to tape it down instead of using a tie bar.
The internet had a ball mocking the fact that Trump, who has his own line of neckwear, was unable to find a tie clip or a tie that fits properly. Some people even began to refer to the ordeal as #TieGate. “Make #America tie their ties correctly again. #TIEGATE. Trump tie held in place by scotch tape…. #Hair will soon come off, too,” one tweeter joked, while another added, “The billionaire who won’t buy a tie bar. #TieGate.”
Others pointed out that he only needed to tape it because he wears his ties way too long. “If there’s one thing we can’t let Trump get away with, it’s his tie being too long,” one Twitter user wrote.
