Dancing With the Stars couple Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy spent the weekend in the hospital after their 3-year-old son, Rome, needed medical attention.
Johnson, 32, wrote via Instagram Stories on Sunday, September 27, that her child was feeling under the weather. Later that day, Johnson shared an update that showed Rome in the hospital with an oxygen mask on his face.
Chmerkovskiy, 40, also uploaded a photo showing Johnson holding Rome in a hospital bed, writing, “Sunday Funday as a parent.”
The pair previously documented a trip to the emergency room one year prior. Johnson offered a glimpse of the hospital visit in October 2025, once again showing Rome wearing an oxygen mask after an unspecified health scare.
“Wanna preface this by saying everything’s fine now and thank goodness Rome is home sleeping,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “But this was our night last night ❤️🩹.”
Johnson expressed gratitude to her husband for his support.
“This guy right here. Our absolute rock through it all,” she continued. “This calm during the storm. Not one time mentioning his exhaustion or lack of sleep going into a show day. Only making sure that our baby is taken care of and mama is staying sane lol. Beyond grateful to do life with you.”
In May 2024, Johnson and Chmerkovskiy’s son received assistance from a paramedic who held an oxygen mask up to Rome’s face in the back of an ambulance. Johnson documented the emergency before providing more information on what happened.
“This would be our son,” she wrote. “So insanely sick but flirting with the beautiful paramedic helping him.”
At the time, Johnson elaborated on Rome’s health, adding, “Thank you to everyone who reached out!! Rome is doing much better today 🙏🏻 He caught a bad case of croup.”
She continued: “Had some troubles getting enough oxygen during a coughing attack in the middle of the night. We were all pretty hysterical and scared. Thankfully doing much better today after seeing the doctors.”
Before Johnson and Chmerkovskiy’s visit to the hospital on Sunday, they spoke to Us about finding the balance between work and family when the DWTS competition is in full swing.
“I think that balance honestly makes me happy because we do have a high intensity job,” she noted to Us. “And then we’re exhausted when we come home.”
