According to TV Replay, Pompeo explained to Cohen that her controversial comments were made off the record as she was walking from the elevator into an interview. She said her team is looking into what happened, but she stands by her quotes.

On Monday, Sept. 23, The Associated Press published shocking quotes from "an interview Monday" with Pompeo, sharing her thoughts on the 2013 Emmys. "I didn't see any diversity in the Emmys at all," the actress was quoted as saying. "The Emmys felt so dated to me . . . That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?"

Sunday's show featured two dance numbers — one with Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, Sarah Silverman and the Emmys Gold Dancers, as well as an interpretive dance number by the nominees for Best Choreography.
