Happily ever after. Ames Brown, who competed on season 7 of The Bachelorette back in 2011, got married to his longtime love, Allison Palm, during a traditional ceremony in NYC’s Upper East Side neighborhood July 30.
The former reality show contestant, 36, wore “gray slacks and a double-breasted navy blazer,” while his bride donned a “Dolce & Gabbana three-quarter-length flowery dress,” according to The New York Times. The pair exchanged vows before 211 guests and, after waving goodbye to their family and friends, headed to the airport for their honeymoon, a monthlong trek through Nepal.
Brown and Palm, 26, met in 2012 during a three-week National Outdoor Leadership School sailing expedition in Mexico, which Brown had embarked upon in part to shake off the negative repercussions of fame that The Bachelorette had brought him.
As fans will remember, Brown was eliminated after he brought Ashley Hebert back with him to his hometown, and he left the show crushed over the rejection.
“People would come up to me on the subway and say: ‘I can’t believe you wore red pants. No wonder she got rid of you,’” he told the Times. “Or, ‘You know, you really shouldn’t cut your hair so short because that would hide your big forehead.’”
Brown later said on the “Men Tell All” special that the breakup, though rough, was overall a necessary wake-up call for him. “My experience with her, [though] it was very painful at the end, has made me a better person,” Brown told show host Chris Harrison. “I’m happy for her.”
Hebert went on to pick J.P. Rosenbaum. They married in December 2012 and have a son, Fordham; this past May, they announced that they’re expecting their second child.
Brown and Palm, meanwhile, have grown their relationship, bonding over coding for hours and other “nerdy” pursuits.
“We were definitely the two most nerdy people on the trip,” Brown said of their experience on the sailing expedition. “She may even take the cake in this regard. When she was the navigator, my God, copious documentation of all aspects of the trip.”
