Full House‘s Jodie Sweetin shared a surprising story about how her TV dad Bob Saget helped her get to safety during a drive-by shooting.
Sweetin, 44, shared the story during a panel at ‘90s Con on Sunday, October 18, with former costars Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Scott Weinger and Andrea Barber.
“I remember a Janet Jackson concert with Bob. We were parked outside of Edge of Epics going to that Janet Jackson concert. And I walked back out to the car and we were sitting in the car and, like, the window exploded,” she recalled. “We were like, ‘Oh!’”
Sweetin said they “ran off” and “then we had to wait for two station wagon taxis — because this is pre-Uber — to come and get us and we were late.”
“And then Bob had to drive me home and explain to my mom what happened,” she continued. “So between that and the Laugh Factory, Bob was not always my mom’s favorite.”
The actress clarified that “they shot the window out of the car,” adding, “It was a drive-by. It was back in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s. I leaned over to tie my shoes and it’s just like, ‘pop, pop, pop,’ and the whole thing shattered.”
After Stamos, 63, asked how this was the first time the story was being shared, Sweetin admitted, “To this day, I told that story and I wonder if it actually, it’s one of those like, ‘Did that actually happen?’ [things].”
“I was there and I doubt that it happened, but it actually did, so,” she added.
Elsewhere during the panel, Sweetin honored Saget’s legacy. The actor died at age 65 in January 2022 after an accidental fall.
“Bob’s just glad we’re all still talking about him. Really, truly,” she told the audience. “Bob just loves to know that he’s still the main topic of conversation. He is the best in [many] ways, and yes, we love him.”
Full House, which ran from 1987 to 1995, followed Danny (Saget) as he attempted to raise his three daughters — D.J. (Bure), Stephanie (Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) — after his wife’s death. Danny’s brother-in-law, Jesse (Stamos), and best friend Joey (Coulier) subsequently moved in to help him out.
The series also starred Barber, 50, Loughlin, 62, and Weinger, 51, and was revived by Netflix as Fuller House in 2016. Many of the show’s OG cast members appeared throughout the spinoff’s five-season run.
The cast has been candid about Saget’s impact in the years since his death. Stamos previously admitted that the loss affected the group’s close-knit connection.
“The sad thing about losing Bob — I mean, there were a lot of reasons [it was sad], obviously — was that he was the guy who really kind of kept us together,” Stamos told InStyle in October 2023. “We try, we talk. But we’re not together as much as we used to [be]. We were a family, and I think people got that too. Both on and off camera.”
