Um, talk about the surprise of a lifetime! Amal Alamuddin had no idea that George Clooney was going to pop the question, the Tomorrowland actor revealed in an interview with CBS News on Tuesday, May 19.
“When I asked her, we had never talked about it, so it was all — there wasn’t like a, ‘Maybe we should get married,” he told CBS’ Charlie Rose. “Literally, I dropped it on her.”
In fact, after he popped the question — with the help of his aunt Rosemary Clooney’s music — Alamuddin needed a moment to take it all in.
“I was at my home and I queued up a playlist of some of my aunt Rosemary’s songs and I asked, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh my god’ and ‘Wow’ — completely unexpected,” the hunk recalled of his now-wife’s reaction. “And you know, I just said — I’m 53 at the time — 'I’ve been on my knee now for 28 minutes so I gotta get an answer out of this cause I’m gonna throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up.’”
The chic human rights lawyer (obviously!) said yes and, eight months after the wedding, Clooney says he’s never been happier.
“I’ve got a real decision maker, a much smarter decision maker,” Stacy Keibler’s ex gushed. “I have someone I can talk to about anything, and someone who I care more about then I’ve cared about anybody. So it’s really nice.”
The newlyweds, who first stepped out together in October 2013, exchanged vows in Venice, Italy, back in September 2014.
