Glory Johnson, Brittney Griner Marriage Annulment Reason Revealed: Pregnant WNBA Star Was Texting Ex-Boyfriend

Glory Johnson, Brittney Griner Marriage Annulment Reason Revealed
Glory Johnson and Brittney Griner's marriage was annulled last month, after Griner discovered that the pregnant WNBA star had been texting an ex-boyfriend during their engagement.

So that's why! The cause behind Glory Johnson and Brittney Griner's surprising marriage annulment last month has been revealed.

TMZ, which obtained the annulment documents on Thursday, July 23, found that Griner had discovered that Johnson (currently expecting twins) was still communicating with an ex-boyfriend during their engagement.

The texts, which were exchanged in April, were discovered by Griner after they married in May. (The stars were also arrested for allegedly assaulting each other this past April, resulting in suspensions from their respective WNBA teams.) According to the docs, Griner claimed she would have never wed Johnson had she known that Johnson was still communicating with her ex.

Johnson, 24, announced on June 4 that she was pregnant. One day later, Griner shockingly filed to annul their marriage of 28 days, claiming "fraud and duress." Griner, 24, explained to ESPN that tying the knot with the Tulsa Shock athlete was a "huge mistake" and that she personally "shouldn't have went through with" the wedding.

Johnson, meanwhile, was "blindsided" by the filing, according to her rep. "I am truly really saddened by the recent turn of events and was not expecting to have our marriage end so abruptly," the pregnant WNBA player told Us Weekly on June 12. "At no stage was Brittney pressured to undertake the fertility process. In fact, throughout the entire process, Brittney was a willing participant, consenting and signing all the necessary documents that needed to be signed in order to move forward with the treatments."

In the annulment docs, Griner also claimed that she later discovered that Johnson had cheated on her with a different man last summer, around the time when they first stated dating. The WNBA star said she would have never proposed to Johnson in August 2014 had she known this.

Johnson's rep, meanwhile, told TMZ that the cheating claims were false, saying his client was "popular and beautiful, so she's going to have male friends."

In a recent interview with ESPN's 2015 Body Issue (in which she posed naked), Griner reflected back on that infamous brawl with Johnson. "You know, you do something, you have to pay the price for it, and I understand that," Griner dished. "I understand what I did was wrong. [The incident] was mutual; they call it 'mutual combat.' And that's what it was. But I wish I had walked away…That was my worst decision; I should've left. Because it never ends good. Domestic violence is never okay, no matter what the situation."

Earlier this month, Johnson posted a social media update about her ex. "You learn more about someone at the end of a relationship," she wrote, "[than] at the beginning."
