If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Two of the top celebrity chefs, Gordon Ramsay and Bobby Flay, are planning a much-awaited cook-off for later this year.
“Should I let you in on a little secret?” Ramsay, 49, said at Vegas Uncork’d on Monday, May 2, according to Foodbeast. “At the end of the year, we’re going to go and do a throwdown. We’re going to do the most amazing live cook-off against a chef that I’ve grown up with and admired for many years, but he keeps refusing to go up against me. You may not have heard of him, but his name is Bobby Flay.”
“I do love the guy. I just can’t wait to beat his ass,” the chef with the notorious temper said playfully during the Bon Appétit–sponsored event at Caesars Palace, where both chefs have restaurants — Flay with Mesa Grill and Ramsay with Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill.
The pair have been talking smack for years. Ramsay kicked off the feud in a March 2013 profile in Men’s Journal, where he said he could outcook Flay. “That’s why I laugh when they say, ‘Let’s see if he’s a real chef. Let’s get him up against Bobby Flay on Iron Chef.’” he said. “I’m like, f–king do me a favor … come on. I’ve forgotten more than he’s known!”
The Iron Chef America star, 51, fired back on Twitter soon after and challenged his rival to a cooking showdown: “Let’s settle this like men, in the kitchen! No words, just knives. Show up or shut up.”
The battle never ended up happening, and each one subsequently blamed the other for wimping out. Flay has yet to respond to the challenge, but foodies everywhere will be anxiously awaiting details of the matchup.
