Hold up, she has Jay and Bey on speed dial! Gwyneth Paltrow made even more revelations about her fascinating Hollywood life to Howard Stern on Wednesday, Jan. 14, discussing what it's like to run in an A-list crowd.
"I have some famous friends," the Mortdecai actress, 42, demurred on the SiriusXM show. "And I have mostly not famous friends." Stern, curious about the latter category, asked Paltrow who was her "great" famous friend.
Paltrow revealed to Stern that she first met Jay Z at a benefit in NYC many years ago. "We all became friends," she said of her estranged husband Chris Martin and music's royal couple. "I normally don't do that, but [we vibed] in that particular case." She went on to gush about Blue Ivy's superstar mom and dad. "They're the greatest people," Paltrow said. "They are funny and sweet, and self-aware and really intelligent."
Stern could not resist from asking Paltrow the burning question of how she reacted to the shocking elevator fight footage after the Met Gala last May. "I never say, 'What's going on?'" Paltrow responded in tough situations. "If any of my friends have anything like that, I call right away. Absolutely… If someone's clearly going through something, I always go straight for it."
(As Us Weekly exclusively reported last August, Beyonce solicited relationship advice from Paltrow during a rough patch with Jay. The "Crazy in Love" singer even stayed in Paltrow's lavish Brentwood home while touring with her husband last summer.)
Paltrow discussed more famous folks in her interview Wednesday, including her romantic past with exes Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck. Interestingly enough, Paltrow sang the praises of Affleck's current wife Jennifer Garner to Stern.
"I'm friends with [Ben] still," Paltrow remarked. The actress had noted earlier that Affleck wasn't ready to be in a relationship in the late '90s when they dated for three years. "But he settled down, and his wife is awesome!" she said of Garner.
"Not only is she beautiful, she's so warm and she cooks, and she's so into her kids. She's hilarious… I had a girls dinner before this summer. (She's my neighbor.) I really like her a lot."
One celebrity friend she's no longer close to? Winona Ryder. "I haven't seen her in years," Paltrow told Stern, squashing rumors that they had a falling out over the coveted lead role in Shakespeare in Love.
"No, that's an urban myth," Paltrow said of allegedly poaching the Oscar-winning role from her former BFF. "I swear to God I did not. I'm raising my hand on the Bible."
