Hillary Clinton spoke of her disappointment at losing the election and urged Americans not to give up as she was honored at an event hosted by the Children’s Defense Fund in Washington on Wednesday, November 16. The former Secretary of State addressed the crowd, speaking for the first time since her concession speech one week ago. Hear what she said in the clip above!
Clinton discussed child poverty and talked candidly about her emotional state after losing the 2016 presidential election, in a shocking turn of events, to Republican Donald Trump.
“Many times this week I wanted to curl up with a book or my dogs and never leave the house again,” the politician candidly shared. “… I know many of you are deeply disappointed about the results of the election … I am too … but as I said last week our campaign was … about building an America that is hopeful … I ask you to stay engaged … America needs you … I know this isn’t easy. I know over the past week a lot of people have asked themselves whether America is the county we thought it was … America is worth it,” Clinton said. “Our children are worth it. Believe in our country … and never ever give up.”

Clinton also discussed how no child should have to live in fear and that “every child deserves the opportunity to live up to his or her potential” while sharing her mother Dorothy’s story.
Prior to making the appearance, a Clinton aide told ABC News that Clinton would “urge Americans — including everyone who supported her campaign — not to give up, to do their part to help give all our kids a better future and to remain engaged in progressive politics at every level.”
The Children’s Defense Fund is a nonprofit advocacy group that works to champion programs for underprivileged children, including efforts to combat poverty, prevent abuse and neglect and provide access to health care and education.
Clinton has worked with the CDF for years, beginning when she graduated from law school. She also acknowledged the group during her nomination acceptance speech during the DNC.
