Um? Iggy Azalea first blamed Britney Spears for the failure of their track “Pretty Girls,” and then proceeded to explain herself with a seriously nasty tweet. It all went down during a Twitter Q&A on Sunday, June 28.
After one fan noted that their 2015 collab “flopped a little bit,” Azalea responded: “@rhuancesarr its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured…”
Her response, of course, sent Spears’ fans into a frenzy and after the Internet picked up her shade, Azalea took it to another level.
“@ThePopZone my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans a–hole 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls,” she wrote in response to the outlet’s story about her seemingly shading the pop star.
For the record, “Pretty Girls” peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On Monday, Azalea explained that she didn’t mean any ill will towards Brit. “@itsGsusBitch im not attacking anyone. all i said was: i wish we had promoted more but thats out of my control. shes a good friend,” she tweeted at a fan.
“Genuine friends have genuine opinions,” she added. “Its possible & healthy to have a differing thought without it being bitchy or shade.”
Spears, 33, seemed to share her own opinion on Monday.
"Can't wait to get back to Vegas," the "Toxic" singer tweeted. "So thankful I have shows for the rest of the year to look forward to… #YouWantAPieceOfMe"
Fans were quick to notice the diss.
"That's it Britney Shade Iggy. Shade her," Twitter user IamAlejandroCh urged.
"Iggy who?" eriickvonxo tweeted.
Spears is performing her show Britney: Piece of Me at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
