Just child’s play? James Franco and Selena Gomez are working on a very special new project together — a baby!
Okay, not really. But the Interview actor, 36, did joke about having a kid with the Behaving Badly actress, 22, after photos emerged of Gomez on the set of their new movie, an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1936 novel In Dubious Battle, which Franco is directing.
The pics, released on Monday, March 30, show the Wizards of Waverly Place alum cradling and doting on a little baby between takes. According to IMDb, she plays Lisa London, a young mother and the daughter-in-law of one of the migrant workers in the AMBI Group-produced film.
Franco, seeing an opportunity for an easy laugh, reposted one of the photos to his Instagram account, joking that he and Gomez had conceived the little one on their previous movie together.
“Selene and I had a baby. It was born during Sprang Break,” he joked in the caption, alluding to 2013’s Spring Breakers, which also costarred Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine.
Gomez, for her part, has yet to comment on the pic, or on Franco’s joke about it. After a years-long on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber, she’s currently rumored to be dating Zedd.
