Although Derulo was at first hesitant to talk about the news (he told radio host Big D "I'd rather not" when first asked about the split) he did say that they'll remain friends.

"Everything is cool man," Derulo said when asked if the two will stay pals. "It's not a bad situation, it's not one of those kinds of things," he added.

A source previously told Us Weekly that the couple of three years are taking the split hard. "They are both upset," the insider told Us. "It just wasn't working. It was a lot of travel and hard to work with their schedules."

During happier times, Derulo penned the song "Marry Me" for the American Idol season 6 champ. "The reason why I wrote the song in the first place [was] because I wanted her to know that when the time is right, then it will happen," he told ABC News last year.
