Going dark never looked so good. Johnny Depp and his girlfriend Amber Heard made a rare appearance together shortly before attending the 2014 Golden Globes. On Jan. 11, the couple of over a year were photographed — in matching outfits! — as they stepped out for The Art of Elysium's 7th Annual HEAVEN Gala in Los Angeles.

During the night out, Depp, 50, and his 27-year-old young love wore matching black ensembles. Depp wore a black suit and a worn, brown hat, as the blonde star donned a tight-fitting, black sequined dress.

"[They were] holding hands and taking pics together on the patio," an eyewitness tells Us Weekly. Earlier in the evening, the Into the Woods actor also was spotted grabbing Heard's hand after the red carpet, as he complimented her stunning dress. She responded by sliding her hand down the side of her gown and replying "thank you" with a smile.

According to Heard's dad David, the event was a special one for the pair. During the Golden Globes on Jan. 12, he was overheard saying they decided to make the rare outing because it's a charity his daughter has been supporting for years. The Art of Elysium is an organization that's dedicated to helping enrich the lives of ill children and artists. (The Machete Kills actress brought her dad to the big award show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Depp was also there as a presenter.)

Depp and Heard first met on the set of their 2011 film The Rum Diaries, and confirmed their relationship in June 2012. Up next, they are set to costar once again in the thriller London Fields. Depp will be making a cameo in the film.
