Kate Gosselin is detailing the “scary twist” that took place during her sextuplets’ 22nd birthday.
The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum, 51, took to TikTok on Monday, May 11, to share moments from her kids Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel’s 22nd birthday celebration. In the video, Leah, who turned 22 on Sunday, May 10, pulled up to her mom in an SUV and gave her a smile and a wave. Gosselin then cut the camera to reveal that they got in a car accident shortly after, leaving their vehicle “totaled.”

“Unfortunately, the trip started out rough,” Kate, who shares her kids with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, wrote over a photo of the damage. “Fortunately, Leah and I are uninjured! Her car did not fair [sic] so well… It’s totaled.”
Kate and Leah didn’t let the accident ruin their day. In the next snap, the reality TV star shared a pic of their drinks being served at a restaurant.
“As they say, the show must go on…We had a birthday to celebrate!” she wrote. “And lots of catching up to do!”
To commemorate another trip around the sun, Kate joined her kids at dinner, noting that Hannah and Collin were not in attendance. They ordered dessert at the restaurant before going home, where Kate shared her homemade cake “didn’t turn out” as she had hoped.
Kate also shared that they ended the evening by celebrating Mother’s Day.
“The best gift my kids have ever given me,” she captioned a pic of herself beaming and holding up Erin Larkin, Kathleen Larkin’s fill-in-the-blank journal, “Just a Few Things I Love about You.”
“To say it was eventful would be an understatement! 😳,” Kate captioned the post. Her followers supported her in the comments section.
“Happy Mother’s Day! So glad no one was hurt,” one wrote, while a second commented, “Glad you and Leah are okay! Looks like a great weekend otherwise. Your children are beautiful! 🌺🩷🌷.” A third commented, “I’m so glad everyone is safe!”
Kate and Jon, who tied the knot in 1999 and finalized their divorce in 2009, are also the parents of twins Cara and Madelyn “Mady,” 25.
Their life was documented in their reality show, which aired from 2007 through 2017. After their separation, Kate and Jon were involved in a decade-long custody battle, which ended when the kids all turned 18 in 2022.
Kate is now dating Steve Neild, who previously worked as a bodyguard for her and Jon. Jon, for his part, tied the knot with Stephanie Lebo in November 2025.
