Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston’s husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, is sharing an update on his wife’s ongoing cancer treatment.
“My little saying is, ‘We’re kind of on the dirt road to lead to the highway [and] we’re trying to find the highway,’” Arcuri, 38, said on the latest episode of Today’s “Happy Hour” podcast, noting the “highway” would mean Thurston, 35, finds “the right cocktail” of medication. “Right now, certain things are affecting her body in more negative ways than they are helping her body.”
According to Arcuri, the couple are “just figuring that out” at the moment.
“I do have confidence, you know, that we will get there,” he stated. “It just sucks watching her go through this, also, and the uncertainty, especially somebody so Type A and organized. She doesn’t like not having control of the situation.”
Less than one year after Arcuri proposed, Thurston announced in February 2025 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Within months, the cancerous tissue spread to Thurston’s liver, which elevated her diagnosis to stage IV.
Thurston has since tried a variety of treatment protocols, including using different medications and undergoing a double mastectomy earlier this year. Arcuri remained by her side through it all.
“It’s tough, but [we’re taking it] day by day,” he added on the podcast. “I just have confidence. If anyone can take it and handle it, it’s her.”
Thurston and Arcuri even moved up their wedding date amid her health battle, tying the knot in March 2025.
“I want to be able to be in the hospital with her and just be like, ‘My wife’s in there.’ There’s more power to that,” Arcuri exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “I don’t want to be not with [Katie] for any of this.”
Thurston, for her part, was moved by Arcuri’s support.
“It was so sweet. Obviously, we were wanting to plan a wedding and there’s a lot of emotions that come in with chemo and the impact and the health and we don’t know what the next year looks like,” Thurston told Us ahead of the ceremony. “And one night he said, ‘I want to show you that I still love you and that I’m here to stay. I’ll get married to you tomorrow.’ We flew our parents in from Michigan and Washington State. We got our marriage license and a friend is just gonna marry us.”
Thurston and Arcuri, who are also in the process of renovating their first house in New York, recently found out that the reality TV alum needs a liver biopsy.
“Still trying to find my new norm. However, I’ve had to pause Kisqali (cancer drug) since February in hopes of bringing my liver enzymes down,” Thurston wrote via Instagram on Monday, July 13. “Despite the extended hold, they continue to stay elevated so later this month I’ll have a liver biopsy and hopefully get more answers. In the meantime, enjoying life’s moments.”
