Fired White House press secretary Katie Zacharia is looking for a do-over.
Earlier this month, Zacharia, 41, was ousted after just five days on the job, but she told Piers Morgan Uncensored on Wednesday, October 28, that she’d be interested in working for President Donald Trump again.
“I would love to work for him again in that capacity or another capacity,” Zacharia said. “Again, he is the most consequential president in history and I have always been a history buff. I have watched what he’s done for this country, and it will secure the futures of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. So, if I am asked to serve, even in a capacity that is not as rewarding, perhaps, I will absolutely step up to that.”
Zacharia was fired as White House press secretary on October 16, reported CNN and The New York Times at the time, just days after she took the podium for her first press briefing.
The former press secretary’s résumé was also scrutinized amid questions about her legal qualifications. Zacharia repeatedly represented herself as a lawyer, however, publications including The New York Times and CNN reported that they were unable to find a law license for her in California or elsewhere in the U.S.
After an intense week in Washington, D.C., Zacharia told host Piers Morgan Wednesday that she’s proud of her efforts despite the criticism she faced.
She shared, “At the end of the week, I was able to sit down with my children, who were all in Washington for that week… I was able to say to my kids, ‘I did the best I could with what I had, and I served the president in the capacity I knew how to.’”
“And I will never break on my loyalty to him, and my character… never let them change who I was,” Zacharia continued. “And my kids understand. I have four of them — 12, 10, 8 and 6 — and my oldest especially said, ‘Mom, I’m very proud of you. No other mom in the country could have gotten that job based on the hard work that you did.’”
“There are a lot of people who don’t know what it took to get that job and many people who draw assumptions. But my kids saw the hard work, blood, sweat and tears,” she added.
According to Zacharia, the scrutiny she faced during her week as press secretary was particularly hard on her mom, who identifies as a Democrat.
“My very far left mother, who is a Democrat, she could not watch the mainstream media,” Zacharia claimed. “So, what I will say is it actually galvanized support among my family, [from] whom I have very different political views, who have not necessarily supported me in my support for President Trump.”
