What do Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Andre 3000 and Tobey Maguire have in common? They've all been honored with PETA's "Sexiest Vegan/Vegetarian Celebrity" title. Today, July 6, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal this year's honorees: Liam Hemsworth and Jhené Aiko.
Hemsworth, 26, decided to make the switch to veganism in 2015, after he learned about the mistreatment of animals. "The more I was aware of, the harder and harder it was to do," he told Men's Fitness last October, of eating meat.
His reasons aren't just ethical, though. Earlier in 2015, before he changed his diet, a nutritionist told him to eat a lot of red meat, because it was supposed to be good for his blood type. He gave it a shot, but the more he ate, the worse he felt.
His Hunger Games costar Woody Harrelson suggested he try a vegan diet. (Harrelson has been vegan for several decades.) Within a few months, Hemsworth was sold. "There are no negatives to eating like this," he told the mag. "I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it."
Singer-songwriter Aiko, 28, feels similarly enthusiastic about veganism, though she admits that it can be hard to stick with it. "Changing my diet like that made me feel like I had so much energy," she told Into the Gloss in late 2015. "But it's a lot of work to live like that.… My goal is to be totally completely vegan and use only vegan products, but I'm human and I have to work on it daily."
Hemsworth and Aiko — who also promote adopting animals from shelters — inherit the Sexiest Vegan Celeb title from none other than the actor's on-again love, Cyrus. Previous winners include Ellen Page, Kristen Bell, Jared Leto, Jessica Chastain and Russell Brand.
