Hashtag: living life. Mandy Moore revealed in a new interview that her mom and two brothers are gay, something that made her upbringing not quite traditional.
“I’ve never really talked about this,” she said in an interview with Byrdie, “but my parents are divorced. My mother left my father for a woman. And both of my two brothers are gay.” Despite what could have been a tumultuous family life, however, the This Is Us star said she grew up in a loving environment.
“My parents loved each other; they did an incredible job raising all of us,” the 32-year-old actress said. In response to the fracturing of her “seemingly traditional” family, Moore explained, she sought her “own kind of normalcy” in the form of marriage. (She wed fellow singer Ryan Adams in 2009, at the age of 24.)
“Then I learned that wasn’t going to be the fruitful experience I wanted it to be,” she explained.
Nowadays, the singer-songwriter-actress said, her family members are “exactly where they should be. Everyone’s so much happier, richer and more fulfilled being their authentic selves.”
At present, Moore is dating Dawes singer Taylor Goldsmith. The pair hinted at their romance in July 2015, half a year after she parted ways with Adams, her husband of six years.
Though the musical pair have laid low with their relationship, Moore did mention Goldsmith in her chat with Byrdie, telling the site that he’s been trying to get her on a vitamin kick.
“My boyfriend is really good about vitamins, and just this morning I made a pact to start a vitamin routine,” she said. “I want to have kids in the next couple years. I always said that I want to take care of myself to the best of my ability before I venture into that phase of my life.”
