Martin Short returned to the red carpet for the first time since the death of his daughter, Katherine Short.
Martin, 76, attended the premiere of his Netflix film, Marty, Life is Short, in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 6, wearing a navy suit and a plaid tie. He posed with his sons, Henry Short and Oliver Short, who coordinated in sunglasses.
The premiere marked Martin’s first public appearance since Katherine died at age 42 in February.
At the time, a rep for Martin confirmed her death to Us Weekly, sharing, “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time.”
The statement continued, “Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
Later that month, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Us that officers responded to a call of a possible suicide attempt in the Hollywood Hills. LAPD’s public information officer told Us that they responded to “the 2800 block of Westshire Drive” and “found a deceased female at the location.”
TMZ reported that Katherine was found “behind a locked door with a note nearby.” She was located by a friend who called for a welfare check after she hadn’t been heard from for a day.
One of Katherine’s neighbors exclusively told Us in February that she showed “no indication of struggle” before her death. “Depression is often a silent [and] hidden killer,” the neighbor, who lived near Katherine for over 10 years, explained.

The neighbor added, “Katherine was a private person, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t friendly. She was quite outgoing.” Katherine could also be heard “laughing with friends” on her front porch from time to time.
While Katherine preferred to stay out of the spotlight, she attended a number of events with Martin through the years. In 2003, she was his plus one at an afterparty for The Producers. She also attended the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscar Party with her dad.
Martin adopted Katherine with his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died in 2011 after a battle with ovarian cancer, along with Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36.
