What’s happening in Matt Lauer‘s neck of the woods on the set of TODAY? Eight months after Ann Curry‘s messy departure, the NBC morning show struggles to regroup and tweak its format.
Following Curry’s June 28 exit, NBC executives hand-picked three female producers to oversee the show and hopefully fix its ratings problem. Lauer, who makes a reported $25 million a year on the show, quickly nixed the plan, one source tells the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands Friday.
“He told a senior staffer the idea of these women running the show reminded him of Lilith Fair.” (A show rep denies that Lauer made the comment.)
More recently, Lauer “flipped out” over New York magazine’s cover story — which claimed the fallout was “so personal” between Lauer and Curry — another source reveals. Writer Joe Hagan’s story also claimed that Curry was forbidden from reaching out to Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts as she fought a rare blood disorder, among other things.
For much more on the tough times at TODAY — what Lauer’s ultimate role in Curry’s ouster was, and his future plans — pick up the new Us Weekly, on stands Friday.
