Step and never repeat. Miley Cyrus told Elle in a new interview that she’s done parading around red carpets.
“[A year ago] I had to do the [Very Murray Christmas] premiere, and I will never do a red carpet again,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer said in the October issues of the magazine. “Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that’s red? Because I’m ‘important’? Because I’m ‘famous’? That’s not how I roll. It’s like a skit — it’s like Zoolander.”
Her role in Woody Allen’s Amazon series Crisis in Six Scenes also made her realize she can use her celebrity for good.
“I’m playing this ’60s revolutionary. Woody plays someone who grew up in the suburbs of New York. He’s got an ice cream machine, and I’m like, people are starving and you’re sitting here making ice cream?! That’s my thing [in real life]. For a long time, I couldn’t sleep because I just felt so guilty,” she admitted of her lifestyle. “I was covered in rashes because I was so stressed. Even today, I dropped my water on my hike and felt like such an a–hole. There are children being sold into sex slavery; how can I go on a hike right now? So now I try to do as much as I can through [my foundation] Happy Hippie.”
The “We Can’t Stop” singer, 23, stuns on the cover of the October 2016 issue to promote her upcoming gig on The Voice, a role she took on because she wanted “to do something like this where we are really talking, rather than somebody talking at me for five seconds.”
Cyrus will join coaches Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine for season 11 of the hit NBC singing competition show.
“I don’t want this to come off the wrong way, but I’m going to tell my contestants: Be Bernie Sanders,” she said of how she’ll advise her singers, referring to the former Democratic presidential hopeful. “Be the person people want and love. Don’t worry about the masses. That’s how you make a memorable moment. Let people talk about it.”
