Miley Cyrus’ relationships have always been in the spotlight, but according to the singer, she might have some exes we’re unaware of.
During a phone interview with the Associated Press on Monday, May 4, the “Wrecking Ball” singer revealed she’s had relationships in the past that weren’t “straight, heterosexual” ones. The AP notes that Cyrus didn’t elaborate past that.
The songstress, who recently launched the Happy Hippie Foundation, most recently dated Arnold Schwarzengger’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger and was previously engaged to Liam Hemsworth.
During an interview with Out magazine, Cyrus, 22, who recently called Bruce Jenner her “hero,” admitted she too has struggled with gender identity.
“I didn't want to be a boy," she told the magazine, explaining: "I kind of wanted to be nothing. I don't relate to what people would say defines a girl or a boy, and I think that's what I had to understand: Being a girl isn't what I hate, it's the box that I get put into."
Following her interview, Cyrus Instagrammed a clip from the article with the caption: "NOTHING can/will define me! Free to be EVERYTHING!!!!"
Cyrus added to the AP that she dyed her armpits pink to send the message of “Don’t tell me what to do.”
“It's back to what I'm preaching in a way, you know, telling these kids,” she concluded. “I’m not just saying you be yourself and I'm going to go be Miley Cyrus. I'm saying I'm going to be my f—king self, too."
