Another false alarm! Nicki Minaj confirmed in her new Billboard cover story published Thursday, Dec. 10, that she is not engaged to Meek Mill, but they look to superstar duo Beyonce and Jay Z for relationship advice.
Minaj, 33, sparked engagement rumors again on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when she posted Instagram snaps of a huge diamond ring, given to her by the hip-hop star, on her left hand. This isn’t the first time the Anaconda rapper has led fans to believe that she and Mill were taking the next step. In April, the rapper shared pics of a huge yellow diamond ring from her rapper beau, whom she started dating in February. This past August, she referred to Mill as her “baby father,” sparking pregnancy rumors.
Minaj sported her yellow diamond sparkler during her interview with Billboard, which was conducted before her birthday. “Yeah. Meek gave me that,” she noted to the mag. “He and I are not engaged. But he said he would like to give me three rings before we get married. My birthday’s coming up, and he better get the new one, because he got [the first one] for my last birthday. So let’s see what happens.”
Indeed, she received another gem from her beau on her 33rd birthday this past Tuesday, Dec. 8, which was the one she shared with her followers. Minaj spoke about the challenges of being in a high-profile relationship, and said she and Mill receive guidance from some famous friends, namely Bey and Jay. (Minaj has collaborated musically with both artists.)
“We actually spoke with Jay Z and Beyonce about it,” Minaj said of having a romance in the public eye. “After our show at [Brooklyn’s] Barclays Center [in October], we had dinner together. They were so giving with advice. I love them so much. It was just a beautiful conversation to have with people we love and we look up to as a couple. They’re so strong.”
Minaj opted to keep their conversation private, but she dished a lot about her beau. “I know Meek — he understood a couple things that I was explaining to him more when we spoke about it in front of them. We were all laughing so much. It was very late — you know when you get so tired, and it’s just like the giggles portion of the evening?” she recalled of their star-studded dinner. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with he and I. I just know right now we are really, really enjoying each other’s company.”
Though they’re not engaged, Minaj revealed in her interview that they are living together. “I watch Investigation Discovery all day. All day,” she told Billboard about her guilty television pleasure. “Like, I know everything about law and crime-solving. Everybody that comes to my house, they’re like: ‘Do you not take it off this channel?’ Meek thinks that I’m planning on killing him. We live together now, and every time he wakes up, it’s on. Every time he goes to sleep, it’s on.”
