Nicole Kidman doesn’t just play a witch in Practical Magic 2, she leans into magic off camera as well.
Kidman’s family secret about their witchy ways came to light during a Thursday, August 27, interview with her niece Lucia Hawley for SheerLuxe — and it’s clear magic is in their blood.
“I don’t know if you know this but Kidman women sway to the more magical side,” Hawley told Sandra Bullock as she sat beside Kidman, 59, for a joint interview amid their Practical Magic 2 press tour. “Some people would say witches.”
Hawley, the daughter of Nicole’s younger sister, Antonia Kidman, revealed that her grandmother was “born on Friday the 13th,” hinting her birthdate added to their connection with the cosmos.
“Oh, it all makes sense now,” Bullock, who plays witch Sally Owens alongside Nicole’s Gillian Owens in both Practical Magic and Practical Magic 2, replied in the social media video.
When asked about her “favorite spells,” Nicole quickly responded, “Love spells.”

She then confessed that her go-to naughty spell has to do with the freezer.
“If I’m a little bit upset with someone, I will write their name and put it in the freezer,” Nicole said, revealing that the action “freezes them out.”
Hawley was familiar with the type of spell, telling Bullock, 62, that her grandma “used to have a list of names in the ice cube area.”
Nicole laughed, noting that “you can come out of the freezer, though” but she doesn’t publicize when the spell is done.
“Do you then let the person know they are out of the icing?” Bullock wondered, to which Hawley said, “Oh, no, no, no. They will feel it.”

Bullock was visibly surprised by the spell revelations, joking, “So is that what happened mid-shoot when all of a sudden you went cold? Was I in the freezer?”
Nicole insisted that wasn’t the case, replying, “No, no.”
Nicole’s eldest daughter, Sunday Rose, seemed to cosign her family’s magical ways, writing in the comments section, “The witches are out😉.” (Nicole shares Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15, with ex-husband Keith Urban. The actress also shares Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.)
Hawley replied back, calling their family “The Kidman coven.”
While it’s unknown whether Nicole’s freezer spell has ever worked in real life, fans can see her cast a few spells when Practical Magic 2 premieres next month.
Nicole previously tapped into her magical side in 1998’s Practical Magic. The original film followed witch sisters Gillian and Sally, raised by their eccentric aunts, as they worked together to try and lift their family’s love curse while covering up an accidental murder.

In the upcoming sequel, Nicole and Bullock reprise their roles alongside Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet, respectively. The new movie will also star Sally’s daughters, Kylie (played by Joey King) and Antonia (played by Maisie Williams).
“A multi generational family of witches, cursed to be loveless for centuries, attempts to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and sacrificing for each other,” the official logline reads, hinting that Sally and Gillian will have to use their magic to once again save their loved ones from a disastrous curse.
Practical Magic 2 hits theaters on Thursday, September 10.
