Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back as the Owens sisters in the official Practical Magic 2 trailer — and this time around, a dead ex-boyfriend is nowhere in sight.
“No magic is stronger than sisterhood. Cast by fate, tested by time and never broken,” Aunt Frances “Franny” (Stockard Channing) reveals in the trailer, released on Wednesday, June 24.
As Franny shares the sweet sentiment about siblings, images of her nieces, Sally (Bullock) and Gillian “Gilly” (Kidman), holding hands and looking at each other lovingly pop up in the background.
Fans then see Franny, her sister Aunt Jet (Dianne Wiest) and Sally and Gillian all sitting around the table in their iconic New England manor smiling while they enjoy a round of midnight margaritas (made famous in the 1998 original film).

The sweet moment is broken as Gillian pants Sally in her bedroom. “What is wrong with you?” Sally playfully asks.
As Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut” starts to play in the background, Gillian tells her sister she “needs to get out there” and wonders, “When was the last time you were touched?”
“I have my family,” Sally tells Gillian as she prepares for a birthday party. “And I’m not receiving texts with photos that I did not ask for.”
While Sally’s love life appears to be dead in the water, she is happy to see her daughters, Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams), come home for their family celebration.
“Remember when mom would tell us where everyone who fell in love … died!” Kylie asks her sister as they talk underneath the covers, like Sally and Gillian did as kids — and in the first movie.
While Antonia is insistent that their family is not cursed, Gillian later warns, “We’re Owens women. Love is our undoing.”

Sally, for her part, ominously reveals, “Here’s the thing about magic. It won’t be silenced.”
Just then the infamous chirping sound of the deathwatch beetle, which fans remember is the sign that death is coming for someone an Owens woman loves, begins to grow louder and louder.
All of a sudden, Kylie’s boyfriend gets hit by a car while riding his bike, proving that the curse may not be done with the Owens women.
“Is this true? Is he going to die?” a distraught Kylie asks her mom and aunt.
Sally admits, “It’s true. We’re witches and the curse is real.”
Kylie storms off, telling her mother, “I will never trust you again.”

As a way to deal with her grief, Kylie vows to “fix the curse” and runs off. Sally and Gillian work together to find her before it’s too late.
The first step is going to the U.K. and meeting up with a man named Ian (Lee Pace) — who in a funny twist — is fully naked and under a spell when the Owens sisters show up.
As Ian tries to help the women find Kylie, he learns that Sally is fearful of her powers, which is why her daughters seemingly haven’t been using theirs.
“I’ve seen what my power can do. The idea that they may have the same power terrifies me,” Sally confesses, as images of Kylie doing magic, winding up at a castle and being tied to a burning stake play out in the trailer.
Don’t fret it’s not all fire and danger, the trailer also shows the Owens ladies — all three generations — having a garden party, drinking midnight margaritas and jumping off their roof on Halloween, per tradition.

“When you have someone who knows who you were and who you will always be, there is no deeper tie, no stronger bond,” Sally says.
She then tells her sister — who is by her side throughout the journey to find Kylie and end the curse once and for all — “I want you to know if anything happens to me, Gilly it’s you. You are my person.”
Practical Magic 2 hits theaters this September.
