Omar Mateen’s Dad Says Pulse Should’ve Hired More Security to Prevent Orlando Massacre

Seddique Mir Mateen, the father of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, said in a Tuesday, June 14, interview with Sky News that he believes Pulse should have had more security on deck to stop his son’s attack on the LGBT nightclub.

When asked if he thinks there is a problem with homosexuality, Seddique skirted the question and placed the severity of the shooting (which left 49 dead and 53 wounded) on the lack of security at Pulse.

“The first thing I want to say is that club should have had good security,” the Afghani immigrant told Sky News. “The club, that four or 300 people were coming, they should have had good security. If there was good security, he wouldn’t have had this opportunity.”

“They should [have] had a good security and why [did] the law enforcement [come] so late? They should have neutralized him quick,” Seddique added. “Obviously if they had that kind of experience, they should have had better security. After this, any club should have security. So if someone wants to come [who’s] sick, the psycho people [want to come], or these bad people [want to come inside] the club, they should protect that.”

In response to the Seddique’s remarks, Pulse issued a statement to TMZ. “We simply can’t find the words to respond to such a callous comment from the father of the man who perpetrated this heinous act,” a spokesman for the nightclub told the site.

Omar allegedly pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS before police shot and killed him just before 6 a.m., almost four hours after he opened fire inside the club.

Since he carried out the deadliest shooting in American history, a multitude of news outlets have reported that the 29-year-old from Fort Pierce, Florida, had messaged gay men on several dating apps and had spent multiple nights partying at Pulse prior to the shooting. His father has told reporters that his son was not “radicalized” and strongly denied speculation that he was gay.
