Zing! One Direction’s Liam Payne might have just started an epic boy band vs. The Biebs Twitter war. It all began when one follower threw some shade at the British singer, 21, writing, “@Real_Liam_Payne Isn't it kinda depressing for you to know that Justin Bieber will always be more successful than you? #”

Payne quipped back, “@arianasmccann how many times have I been arrested.”

Naturally, the legions of Beliebers didn’t take kindly to Payne’s diss, which sparked a massive response from the devoted fans.

Payne quickly took it back tweeting to his 19.6 million followers, “Never mind,” followed by, “#ringoffire, #banter.”

After a series of run-ins with the law, Bieber, now 21, was first arrested in January 2014 for drag racing in Miami Beach, Fla. Later that year he was charged with a misdemeanor for egging his neighbor’s Calabasas, Calif. home. Then in September 2014, the “Boyfriend” singer was arrested yet again and charged with assault for his reckless driving in Ontario followed by a “physical altercation” with the driver of a minivan.

Payne’s online joke comes after his group has recently been in the news for a variety of reasons. After rumors that he cheated on fiancée Perrie Edwards came out, bandmate Zayn Malik exited One Direction’s world tour due to “stress.” And Louis Tomlinson confirmed his split from his girlfriend of more than three years, Eleanor Calder, just last week.
