It's like the hunger games of fashion? A mystery man on the red carpet of the 2015 Met Gala fueled questions on social media, after he was photographed on Monday, May 4, accidentally photobombing latecomers Jay Z and Beyonce while holding a slice of pizza.

The unsuspecting individual, ducking out from behind photographers, was immortalized clutching a sauce-smothered slice of pepperoni pizza outside of the high-profile, annual fashion event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Meanwhile, the photo's intended subjects, Jay Z and a barely covered Beyonce, expertly posed for the slew of photogs lined up on the famed red carpet steps of the NYC institution. "In WHAT WORLD is this his moment for pepperoni pizza???" one writer noted on Instagram, alongside a glaring red arrow pointed at the mysterious figure.

Pizza was one of the hot topics to arise from the red carpet of the Met Gala on Monday evening. Another celebrity to be associated with the cheesy treat was none other than Rihanna, who donned a canary yellow gown by Guo Pe from 2010 to the gala celebrating the Met's China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition.

Rihanna's train was so elaborate and immense that her look quickly sparked memes across the Internet, including one memorable pic of a full pizza pie coating the magnificent fabric. Other memes to emerge from Monday's Met Gala included one of a cartoon Beast from Disney's animated classic Beauty and the Beast, and another one that harkened back to the days of Sesame Street.

"When you hire Big Bird as your stylist," the meme read.
