It’s a case of he said, she said. Pregnant Keshia Knight Pulliam is alleging that her husband, former NFL pro Ed Hartwell, was the one who cheated after the athlete accused her of being unfaithful.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight set to air on Wednesday, July 27, the former child star, 37, claimed that contrary to reports, Hartwell, 38, was the one whose behavior caused the downfall of their relationship.
“Early on in my marriage when I was faced with this, I was ready to leave,” the actress said of Hartwell’s alleged infidelity. “It’s not OK. In the process, I found out I was pregnant. And I had to take another hard look and decide if I wanted to try to work through this and forgive him for the sake of the child. Like, I had divorce papers ready. I presented it to him. … Once I was pregnant, I did decide to give him that one last chance.”
A rep for Hartwell did not respond to requests for comment.
Earlier this week, Hartwell abruptly filed for divorce after nearly seven months of marriage. In a statement issued through his rep at the time, he said, “Right now, the only thing I want is a paternity test for the baby.”
“I don’t know if it’s the hormones … no, it’s all of it, because it’s fresh,” Knight Pulliam told ET through tears. “And it’s hurtful. And I knew I couldn’t be silent, because this isn’t about money. This isn’t about fame. This isn’t about social media likes or follows. This is about my character — my integrity as a woman being attacked — and that’s not OK.”
The Cosby Show alum added that what added insult to injury was that “he had asked me to give him another chance, and I was willing to do that and forgive him, for our family.”
Hartwell’s divorce filing comes just days after the couple revealed their baby news. Knight Pulliam announced that she was pregnant via an Instagram post on Sunday, July 17, with a selfie of herself holding a cupcake with pink frosting.
“Surprise!!! We have a new addition coming soon,” the actress captioned the photo, telling fans to tune in to her podcast, “Kandidly Keshia,” for more details.
The pair have had a whirlwind romance, tying the knot on New Year’s Eve 2015. “We did it literally in our living room in our home,” Knight Pulliam said on her podcast January 22. “We come from large families. I’m one of four, Ed is one of six. We invited people. They had no clue they were coming to a wedding. They thought they were coming to a New Year’s party.”
Hartwell was previously married to Real Housewives of Atlanta star Lisa Wu; the pair split in 2011, and share a son, Ed Jr.
