Beyonce and Jay-Z proudly hosted a fundraiser for President Barack Obama's reelection campaign Tuesday night in NYC.

The couple held the event at Jay-Z's 40/40 club, and tickets cost $40,000 per head. "I can't tell you how proud we are to host tonight's event with President Obama," Beyonce, 30, said while introducing Obama, 51. "We believe in his vision."

After taking the stage, Obama joked that wife First Lady Michelle Obama and their girls Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14, were "mad at me because they aren't here."

"To J and B, thank you so much for your friendship," Obama told his hosts. "Beyonce could not be a better role model for my girls."

Obama also joked that he and 42-year-old rapper Jay-Z — who welcomed his first child, daughter Blue Ivy, in January 2012 — have a lot in common. "We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are," he said. "So, you know, we've got a little bond there. It's hard but it's okay."

In July, Beyonce posted a YouTube video in support of Obama's reelection campaign and read aloud a letter of appreciation for Michelle. "Michelle is the ultimate example of a truly strong African American woman," the "Halo" singer said. "She is a caring mother, she's a loving wife, while at the same time, she is the First Lady. No matter the pressure, and the stress of being under the microscope, she's humble, loving, and sincere."

"I'm so in awe of Michelle Obama. Every time I see her, she empowers me, inspires me to live a healthy lifestyle, to support our veterans," she continued. "Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that you do for us. I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to."

Michelle tweeted a response to the letter, writing, "Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to."
