Former Sister Wives star Leon Brown reflected on growing up in a “cult” during a deeply personal vlog.

“This story will take many forms and be in many parts, but here’s a start. Thanks for listening & being respectful,” Leon, 31, captioned a TikTok video on Monday, August 3.

In the video, Leon walked viewers through their unorthodox childhood in Utah and Wyoming with their “family of four parents — three moms and a dad.” (Leon’s biological parents are family patriarch Kody Brown and his ex-wife Meri Brown. Kody, 57, is currently married to Robyn Brown and was previously with Janelle Brown and Christine Brown as well. Leon came out as transgender in 2022 and uses they/them pronouns.)

“I was really shy and really fearful as a child, so I didn’t really know people outside of the cult,” Leon told viewers. “We were homeschooled until we moved to Utah when I was 10. Then, we started going to the same church, a cult church, in Utah. At that point, it got a little bit more all-encompassing.”

Leon looked back on their daily routine as a child, explaining that they went to “church school” on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, followed by attending “primary” education on Thursdays. While they described these “primary” sessions as “religious indoctrination for children,” Leon remembered excelling in the program.

“I loved primary,” they remembered. “I loved learning about Jesus. I loved learning about church history. I think there’s some religious scrupulosity there. It was rewarding, and I was rewarded for it. So I’m not actually sure if I like it or not. Who’s to say?”

Leon promised to share more about their upbringing in future videos, though they confessed it was “weird” discussing the topic.

“I don’t talk about this a lot,” they explained.

Leon’s reflections come a year after Kody’s ex-wife Christine, 54, admitted in her memoir that she was “in a cult” and had raised her six children in one.

“Our leader was the only one who knew the rule of God,” Christine explained. “I was required to follow, without question, a strict list of rules. I grew up afraid of the outside world in a sheltered community. We judged and even ostracized those who left the church.”

She added, “I believe I grew up in a cult. I believe I raised my children in a cult.”

Leon has been estranged from dad Kody for several years. In November 2025, Leon publicly denied Kody’s claims that he’d tried to make amends with all of his children after starting therapy.

“Taking a break from my social media hiatus to say one thing,” Leon wrote via their Instagram Story at the time. “There’s a ridiculous video of my father circulating where he says he reaches out to his children.”

Leon alleged that they’d not heard from Kody since their brother Robert “Garrison” Brown died at age 25 in March 2024.

“[Kody] is a liar. He is a joke of a father. That’s all,” Leon wrote.
