No longer wifey number one. TLC Sister Wives star Kody Brown has secretly divorced his first wife to legally marry the youngest of his four wives.
His new legal spouse is one of the four “sister wives” — Meri, Christine, Janelle, and Robyn — featured on TLC’s reality series. On the show, Brown claims to have four spouses; legally speaking, however, he is only allowed one wife.
According to TMZ on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 46-year-old Brown divorced his 44-year-old wife Meri last fall, and discreetly wed another 37-year-old wife Robyn several months later. Brown and Meri first wed in 1990, and filed joint divorce documents last September. Their divorce was finalized two weeks later.
In December, Brown and Robyn — who joined the polygamist family in 2010 — applied for a wedding license.
Sister Wives, which is now in its sixth season, has documented the rift between Brown and Meri. The couple share 18-year-old daughter Mariah, and have struggled to conceive more kids. Brown also shares six children with Janelle, six children with Christine, and one son with Robyn. (Robyn also has three children of her own from a previous relationship.)
While the exact reason for Brown’s decision has yet to be revealed, TMZ reported Tuesday that the switch was made so that he could bring Robyn’s three kids formally into his family.
In recent weeks, Meri has tweeted increasingly about personal issues, sharing cryptic quotes via social media. “Stay real, stay loyal, or stay away from me,” she posted in one update. In another tweet, Meri alluded to marital confrontation, which Kody retweeted and confirmed Jan. 30.

Robyn, meanwhile, has not directly addressed the muddled situation, but she tweeted about family in the last week.
It is always tough giving up the ideal of what a plural family means to you. We always want to be a united family.
