The Making a Murderer plot thickens. Steven Avery’s brother Earl is claiming in a new interview with Access Hollywood that Teresa Halbach’s car was not on their land the night of her murder, despite law enforcement claims.

“We drove right through there, where that car was supposed to be, and it wasn’t there,” Earl claims in the interview. “That night of the 31, we were rabbit hunting.”

As documented in the Netflix series Making a Murderer and the Avery specials that followed on Dateline and Investigation Discovery, a search party member found Halbach’s car on Avery’s land covered in branches. Steven’s and Halbach’s blood was found inside the car. During his trial, Steven’s lawyers argued that evidence was planted inside Halbach’s car to frame him.

“If somebody is going to slice somebody’s throat, you know there’s going to be blood,” Earl told Access Hollywood’s Stephanie Bauer, addressing the claims that Steven sliced Halbach’s neck on his bed. “They say they cleaned up in the garage, but there’s all dust and everything all over everything. How do you clean up and then put the dust back?”

Earl also addressed Steven’s claim that possibly his brothers killed Halbach. According to Earl, “[Steven] told me that his lawyers told him to say that, and he told me that he was frustrated that we wouldn’t talk to him or go up and see him.”

Earl also says in the interview that his family is now bombarded with phone calls from strangers calling them murderers.
