Steven McBee Jr. is taking responsibility for the way he reacted after accusing girlfriend Allie Eklund of cheating at the Stagecoach Music Festival.
“Early Monday morning, I was made aware of an incident involving someone I love deeply and I reacted out of absolute hurt and betrayal,” McBee, 33, wrote in a Wednesday, April 29, Instagram statement. “While there are other videos and details I will not be sharing out of respect, this context is not an excuse. What followed is my responsibility alone.”
The statement continued, “The texts I sent were cruel and degrading. No level of personal hurt and betrayal justifies the language I used, and I am ashamed of those messages. To anyone who has been on the receiving end of such words, I am truly sorry. I recognize that the criticism I am receiving is fair, and I am listening.”
McBee noted that he’s “absolutely devastated by the decisions and actions of someone” who he “fully trusted and planned a life with,” but said that “taking those frustrations and pain out on her with cruel and degrading words was wrong.” (A source exclusively told Us Weekly that McBee and Eklund, 29, talked about “getting engaged” this year prior to their relationship drama.)
“I will not discuss the other details and videos I received; my focus remains entirely on my own actions,” he wrote. “I have been in therapy to manage my emotions during high-intensity moments, and I am now taking advanced steps to ensure I react better when faced with adversity.”
The statement continued, “I have personal issues to address, and it was unfair to take them out on someone I love in a heated moment of shock and betrayal. I am taking the necessary time to complete my therapy and focus on self-reflection.”
McBee added that “breaking a familial cycle of bad habits, patterns and history starts with one person deciding to make a change and focus on breaking the cycle for the betterment of his or her own life and future family.” He shared that he promised with “everything inside of me I plan on doing just that.”
“I also want to apologize to anyone I have disrespected or spoken to harshly in business, friendships or past relationships,” he wrote. “This has never been my intent, and I am committed to doing the work to be a better person. I am not asking for sympathy, but I am grateful to anyone willing to give me the change to grow. Time to get to work.”
McBee signed his message, “Respectfully — Steven M.” In the caption, he wrote, “Time to get to work.”
McBee and Eklund went public with their relationship in 2025, months before the pair attended Stagecoach in Indio, California — and he then made headlines for accusing her of cheating.
McBee alleged via Instagram on Monday, April 27, that he was sent messages and video footage of Eklund getting cozy with another man. “I just know there was hand holding, grinding, dancing, drunken stupor at an afterparty,” he claimed.
Eklund, however, denied the allegations in a separate statement. “This is really sad to see,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, “and I’m genuinely at a loss for words.”
She went on to share alleged screenshots of messages from McBee, including one where he allegedly called her a “hooker.” McBee later admitted that he said “regrettable things,” while Eklund told her followers on Monday that she is “not looking to escalate things any further.”
“I’d like this to end here. I’ve said what feels necessary in response to his actions and I plan on taking time to process and move forward,” she concluded.
