Suki Waterhouse reflected on her romance with ex Bradley Cooper in a rare comment while discussing her relationship with fiancé Robert Pattinson.
“It’s quite hard to make something work where you’re both doing these kinds of jobs, when you don’t live in one place and you’re traveling a lot,” Waterhouse, 34, told The Sunday Times of her three-year engagement to Pattinson, 40, in an interview published on Saturday, October 31.
“It is almost a decade [of our relationship] and that is a beautiful thing,” the Daisy Jones & The Six alum continued. “It’s a thing that I go, I can’t believe that I have this in my life and I can’t believe that I’m so happy.”
Waterhouse and Pattinson began dating in 2018, three years after she ended her relationship with Cooper, 51. The singer told the outlet that the longevity of her connection to Pattinson “surprised” her because her previous relationship didn’t last.
“Before I had only ever gone out with someone for two years, and if it was two years, it would have been a disaster at the end,” Waterhouse said, referring to her former relationship with Cooper without naming him. (The exes dated from 2013 to 2015 and made headlines at the time for their 17-year age gap.)
Waterhouse previously opened up about her split from Cooper in a July 2024 interview with British Vogue.
“When something very public happens to you and the story behind it is dark and difficult, and you’re actually not doing well, and you can’t explain yourself to the world, that’s very isolating and disorientating,” she recalled. “It probably has taken a decade to work myself out and actually be able to have this expansion in my life.”
She also said the love she experienced in her 20s was “only ever a fetishization.”
“When you get into your 30s you’re almost instantly afforded a little bit more respect,” Waterhouse continued. “It’s kind of delightful and shocking at the same time.”
However, the Love, Rosie star said she has no regrets.
“I wouldn’t take anything back. All these chaotic ways that my life went, it was always material,” she said, adding that the past “led me to a love that is really pure.”
Waterhouse has kept her romance with Pattinson fairly private. However, she did open up to The Sunday Times about their wedding plans and parenting their daughter, who was born in March 2024.
“It would either be all or nothing,” she said of getting married, noting that their plans to tie the knot are on hold until at least the end of this year. “If we were going to go for it, we’d have a massive party, blow it out.”
Speaking about their daughter, Waterhouse added, “I’m two and a half years into motherhood now, and I feel very confident that we’re great parents and juggling a slightly abnormal life, but I feel good about how we’re doing it and we are both just so connected to her. She’s such a wonderful, happy girl.”
