Dreams really do come true! One Taylor Swift fan had her wish fulfilled on Saturday, Nov. 28, after attending the singer’s concert in Sydney, Australia, prior to losing her hearing completely due to an inner-ear condition.
“Things like this happen to other people, not to people like us,” 12-year-old Jorja Hope’s mother Melissa told Australia’s Today show on Sunday, Nov. 29. “It’s been a fairy tale.”
According to the Maitland Mercury, Jorja has a condition that causes “progressive, inner-ear hearing loss.” When the preteen first found out her diagnosis, her mother told the paper, the first thing she said was, “I won’t be able to hear Taylor Swift sing.”
“Jorja has battled her whole life from being born preemie with growth problems, to surgeries on her ears already and five surgeries for broken bones,” Melissa added. “She is a fighter, no matter what happens, she smiles and keeps going.”
Jorja’s twin sister, Chloe, wanted to do something extra special for her sister, and so started a hashtag that went viral on social media: “#helpjorjameettaylorswiftsydney.”
Chloe even set up a Facebook campaign that got picked up with the help of local radio station Nova 96.9, and Jorja and her sister, Chloe, were able to attend Swift’s show on Saturday.
“[She’s] very, very amazing,” Jorja said on Australia’s Today show. “And very pretty. Taylor Swift, she is my idol. She’s a good role model. I didn’t expect her to be as tall as she was!”
The family later took to their Facebook page to thank everyone for their support, and what they called “the most amazing night of our lives.”
