“We’re trying to do the best we can for our kids because they are what really matters,” she told the publication. The MTV personalities are parents of son Lincoln, 2. Lowry, 24, also has son Isaac, 6, with ex Jo Rivera.
Lowry and Marroquin, who works for the Air Force, tied the knot in September 2013 after announcing their engagement in September 2012.
The hit MTV docuseries has followed the young couple’s many ups and downs, including their arguments with Rivera over child support for little Isaac, her miscarriage and Marroquin's overseas deployment.
As recent episodes have shown, Marroquin’s deployment was particularly difficult for Isaac, who calls him “daddy.” The sensitive little boy was seen clutching his second father figure and crying during a goodbye party, and Lowry has discussed how nights are particularly hard for Isaac with her husband away.
The latest episode, which aired Monday, May 23, hinted at a split for the couple. During the show, currently in its seventh season, Lowry hung up on her husband during a FaceTime call while he was away on his deployment after he accused her of being cold.
“We run out of things to talk about — I can’t relate to what he says,” Lowry told Vee Torres, the fiancée of ex-boyfriend Rivera, during the episode. “He gets upset with me because I don’t show emotions.”
Their marriage showed strains earlier in the season when the show documented the heartbreaking loss of their pregnancy and revealed they had been fighting after her brief hospitalization.
"It's like I needed someone to blame," Marroquin told his wife of the miscarriage during one episode. "I needed to blame somebody, and I was taking it out on you."
The mom of two sent fans into a frenzy when she appeared at the MTV Movie Awards with ex-boyfriend Rivera in April. The reality star showed off her figure in a very low-cut black dress that also featured thigh-high slits, and wasn't wearing her wedding ring at the event.
Isaac's dad told Us that there was nothing going on between the exes. "We're maintaining a good friendship," he said of coparenting with Lowry.
Lowry first found herself in the spotlight after being featured on the second season of MTV's 16 and Pregnant in 2010. She has been featured on Teen Mom 2 since the spinoff debuted in 2011.
