Mum's still the word when it comes to Tom Cruise and his 2012 divorce from Katie Holmes. In a widely circulated supposed interview with German TV network ProSieben, the Oblivion actor, 50, was quoted as saying that he "didn't expect" Holmes, 34, to file divorce papers last June, and that "life is a tragicomedy."
A rep for Cruise confirmed on Wednesday that the ProSieben quotes about the Holmes marriage were in fact fabricated by German tabloid Bunte. Instead, the ProSieben interview stuck mostly to Cruise's career, and shooting Oblivion in Iceland last year.
"For my 50th birthday [the director] Joe [Kosinski] and the studio gave me a bubble bike," recalled Cruise, whose birthday is July 3. (Holmes filed her papers on June 29.). "It was so amazing … I was allowed to ride it in areas where you are no longer allowed to drive. [Iceland] is a beautiful country."
Cruise did, however, discuss his kids Isabella, 20, Conor, 18, and Suri, 6, with ProSieben — noting he would support them if they pursued film careers.
"Suri, Connor and Isabella have grown up on movie sets — the door is always open for them," he said.
Last month, Cruise's Rock of Ages director Adam Shankman told Us Weekly that both the actor and his ex-wife are doing well and moving on with their lives.
"They are incredibly happy," Shankman said of the former spouses.
