Two Sisters Mysteriously Found Dead While Vacationing in the Seychelles

Two sisters were mysteriously found dead at the $2,000-a-night Maia Luxury Resort and Spa on the Seychelles island of Mahé  on Thursday, September 22.

Annie Korkki, 37, and Robin Korkki, 42, who arrived at the five-star hotel on September 15, were found unresponsive by resort staff in their hillside villa just two days before they were scheduled to fly home, the Seychelles Nation newspaper reported. “There were no marks on them whatsoever,” Seychelles tourism minister Alain St. Ange told NBC News. “They had a good time in the day, and then they went to their room.”

According to Seychelles Nation, the Minnesota natives were spotted consuming alcohol on September 21 and had to be helped to their room by employees at around 8:15 p.m. The next afternoon, Annie and Robin’s lifeless bodies were discovered in their beds. CBS Denver reported that police removed undisclosed prescriptions from the scene.

Now investigators and the Korkki family are searching for answers.

“It’s all very surreal,” Annie and Robin’s brother Chris Korkki told KARE 11. “We don’t know very much. Our family is still very much in shock. We’re devastated.”

Annie, who resided in Colorado, worked at JP Morgan Chase and was a member of the synchronized skating team in Denver. “She talked about it as a trip of a lifetime, and I think she and Robin felt like it was a wonderful way to celebrate their relationship, their love of travel and adventure,” Annie’s coach, Caitlyn Cattelino, told CBS Denver.

Robin was most recently living in Chicago and worked as a trader, per her LinkedIn profile.

A GiveForward account has been set up to bring Annie and Robin home. “Their untimely death has left many all over the world saddened and undoubtedly heartbroken,” it reads. “Their mother (Sue) and brother (Mike) are currently in Seychelles making arrangements for Robin & Annie to make the journey back to the USA so their family can be whole again.”

Autopsy results are pending.
