Where the Summer House Cast Stands After ‘Torturous and Emotionally Draining’ Reunion and Leak (Exclusive)

It was the audio leak heard around the world: On April 23, shortly after the cast of Summer House filmed their highly anticipated reunion special in New York City, unauthorized recordings from the set went viral. In the clips, emotions ran high as castmates appeared to press Amanda Batula and West Wilson on their shocking romance, which they announced in a joint statement on March 31. Batula split from costar Kyle Cooke in January after four years of marriage; Wilson dated castmate — and Batula’s close friend — Ciara Miller in 2023.

The bombshell leak sent shockwaves throughout the Bravoverse, and exec producer Andy Cohen quickly condemned the release in a Threads post, describing it as “disgusting and illegal.” (On April 26, Bravo announced it had closed its investigation after discovering the recording was distributed by someone in production.)

Fans are now watching the 10th season of the hit reality series — which was filmed last summer — through a different lens, looking for clues that Batula, 34 (who was still married to Cooke, 43, at the time), and Wilson, 31 (who appears to be trying to rekindle things with Miller, 30, in recent episodes), were hooking up — or at least heading in that direction. TikTok and Instagram are flooded with clips of flirty moments between the pair; Bravo exec Frances Berwick recently told The Ankler that they are “telling the story in the purest, truest way that we can as it unfolded last summer.”

It’s easily the biggest reality TV shakeup since 2023’s Scandoval — and has everyone questioning where the castmates stand with one another and what it means for the future of the series. (The show’s spinoff In the City starring Cooke, Batula and costar Lindsay Hubbard, 39, debuts May 19.) “Everything is changing day by day,” a source tells Us Weekly. “There are daily internal conversations about how the cast is feeling and how they want to proceed.”

Rumors that Wilson and Batula had become more than friends gained traction in early March after the gossip blog Deuxmoi reported they’d been spotted cozying up to each other in NYC. Wilson addressed the reports during a March 24 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, insisting he was simply showing his newly single castmate around. “That’s a friend,” said Wilson, adding, “but if it’s not clear, that’s a very important person to me. Like, I care about her a lot.” A week later, they put out a statement on Instagram saying it wasn’t their intention to “purposely hide anything” and that their recently developed relationship “was the last thing either of us expected.”

The source says very few Summer House castmates think the romance will last. “Amanda and West have said it’s serious and that they’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend, but no one would be shocked if it were just a fun hookup that they now have to take seriously.”

The mood at the reunion, set to air in parts beginning May 26, was intense. “The guys were emotional for most of the day [while] filming and several of them cried,” says a second source. The first source tells Us the lead-up was difficult for all involved. “[It] was torturous and emotionally draining because they just wanted to get answers and move on from it. The cast is relieved it’s behind them.”

There’s a consensus among the cast that Batula and Wilson aren’t being completely transparent about when they began hooking up. “Everyone wants real, straightforward answers,” explains a third source, “but there’s a feeling that parts of the story are still being held back or carefully spun, which has only made tensions worse.”

The cast seems to be gravitating toward Team Miller. “The cast is mad at West and Amanda because of the way they handled things at the reunion,” a fourth source tells Us. The third source says the only person who’s been in touch with Amanda is Kyle, and that “no one is talking to West.” In an interview with street journalist Adam Glyn on April 1, Cooke said he was worried about Batula’s mental health. “She’s getting cyberbullied,” he said. “I just feel bad. Amanda knows that what she did was wrong and she’s trying to come to terms with it, but she is not [doing] well.”

Cooke also said figuring out the timeline of Batula and Wilson’s hookup is “a mental mind-f***” and revealed that Wilson sent him a “half-assed text message” shortly after news of the romance broke. (Wilson said on the April 20 episode of the “Show Me Something”  podcast that there was “no overlap” and that he and Batula were single when they got together; a source told Us in early April that Wilson and Miller were together as recently as “mid-to-late February.”) Adds the first source: “Amanda and Kyle know each other better than anyone else. They’re on OK terms. Their relationship is definitely more tense than it was a few weeks ago, but they still talk.”

Miller is doing “surprisingly well,” the first source says. “She has good and bad days, but she’s not the type to sit around and mope. She won’t give Amanda and West that power.” The fourth source tells Us that despite Miller keeping her head high, she is still “extremely hurt and angry” with the couple. “Ciara will never be friends with them, especially after the reunion,” says the fourth source. “She wanted answers [about their relationship] by the reunion to make up her mind, but she is finally finding out who Amanda really is.”

She’s still figuring out her next moves. (Miller, who also appeared on season 3 of The Traitors, is set to join season 35 of Dancing With the Stars this fall.) “Ciara is thinking of only doing Dancing With the Stars and not returning to Summer House so she can focus on the positive in the next chapter of her life,” explains the fourth source. “If she’s friends with West and Amanda, why would she return?” The first source says Miller doesn’t think she “needs” Summer House anymore, “but she’s torn because being on reality TV has given her so much. She has more opportunities than ever coming her way, so she’s deciding what makes most sense for her future and, more importantly, her mental health.”

Summer House producers also need to decide what’s next. Prior to the Batula-Wilson scandal, the plan was to phase out Cooke, Batula and Hubbard as they move on with In the City and “bring in some fresh faces who’d gel naturally with the remaining cast members,” says the first source. But fans are now invested in the fallout. (Season 10 is the highest-rated Summer House installment so far.) “Kyle and Amanda are very much still integral as things are evolving in real time. Producers are aware that people will be tuning in to see them, not newbies.”

The third source says producers are exploring their options. Berwick told The Ankler that while she can’t share anything about who’s returning, “If I had to put money on it, I would say Summer House is coming back.” (The owner of the Hamptons mansion where Summer House has filmed for the past five seasons recently put the property on the market for $5.65 million.) Wilson was in talks to do a spinoff with his friends in the Ozarks, but the first source says it’s unclear “if that’s moving forward.”

Whatever they decide, they’ll need to do it soon. “Filming Summer House typically starts in two months,” says the first source. “It’s crunch time.”
