Becoming the news. Good Morning America anchor T.J. Holmes and his coanchor Amy Robach gained national attention after rumors swirled of the twosome’s alleged relationship.
The coworkers, who are both married to other people, were spotted holding hands in November 2022. At the time, the Daily Mail published a series of photos of the pair getting cozy while on various outings around New York City.
Robach and Holmes did not publicly comment on the photos at the time but did delete their social media accounts. The Arkansas native tied the knot with attorney Marilee Fiebig in 2010, while the Daytime Emmy award winner has been married to Andrew Shue since 2011.
Following the romance rumors, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that ABC personalities’ relationship had “blossomed from a close friendship.”
“They always had a spark and their work trips away together brought them even closer,” the insider shared with Us. “They have been trying to keep their relationship a secret until they were ready to announce.”
The former MSNBC correspondent joined the third hour of the ABC morning show in September 2020 alongside Robach and Dr. Jennifer Ashton. When the journalists appeared on GMA the following day amid the speculation, the team carried on like it was business as usual.
“It’s Friday eve,” Robach announced at the start of the morning program with Holmes and Ashton by her side.
“Who’s looking forward to the weekend?” Holmes teased and Robach raised her hand. “Of course we are. Welcome, everybody, to GMA3: What You Need to Know. Always good to see you.”
Before the duo’s speculated connection made headlines, they opened up about their friendship multiple times, including when they decided to train for a half marathon together.
“[One] tip is to train with friends,” the Michigan native said in a TikTok video from March shared via GMA3: What You Need to Know’s official account. “You set the agenda, you say, ‘Here’s when we’re meeting’ and then you actually make an appointment. It becomes social and fun when you’re working hard [and] at least you feel the excitement of doing it with someone, you don’t feel alone. I really think that’s a huge big part of it, to have a run buddy.”
The colleagues even traveled to the United Kingdom together to headline GMA‘s coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee back in June. Robach shared that she “couldn’t have asked for a better partner” via Instagram at the time.
