Simpson went after the Vox Lux actress in December 2018 after she made a controversial comment about the singer’s 1999 bikini photo. “@Natalieportman I was disappointed this morning when I read that I ‘confused’ you by wearing a bikini in a published photo taken of me when I was still a virgin in 1999,” Simpson tweeted. “As public figures, we both know our image is not totally in our control at all times and that the industry we work in often tries to define us and box us in. The power lies within us individuals. I have made it my practice to not shame other women for their choices in this era of Time’s Up and all the great work you have done for women, I encourage you to do the same.”

No regrets! During an interview with CNBC’s Closing Bell in September 2015, Simpson didn’t look back on her time with Lachey fondly. “The biggest money mistakes? I don’t know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage,” she admitted. Simpson and Lachey were married from 2002 to 2006 and documented their relationship on MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

The MTV alum snapped back at her ex-boyfriend’s remarks about their sex life in March 2010. “It’s more embarrassing ‘cause I’ll walk into a restaurant or something and I’ll notice more men are looking at me,” she told The View one month after Mayer called her a “sexual napalm” during an interview with Playboy. “And he’ll never have this napalm again … He did apologize, but I mean, at this point, it doesn’t really matter. I mean, I only thought he was stupid for breaking up with me.”

Not a fun run-in! Simpson made a scene wile running into her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, on a dinner date with Vanessa in October 2010. “It was very weird an awkward,” an eyewitness exclusively told Us Weekly at the time, noting that the fashion designer “got really loud.”

An honest mistake! Simpson poked fun at Whole Foods in July 2017 after the company reportedly stocked tuna in products containing chicken salad by mistake. “It happens to the best of us,” teased via Instagram, a subtle nod to her concerns about Chicken of the Sea tuna, which she voiced to then-husband Nick Lachey 15 years ago on Newlyweds.

Simpson came under fire in July 2018 for sharing an Instagram video of her son, Ace, wearing a cast while doing a somersault nto a pool. “There really is no stopping a child, that’s him. He only has to have the cast on for three weeks. He was in the pool that day. I don’t even know if the cast molded onto him yet,” she told Extra at the time in defense of her actions. “Listen, it makes him happy and it’s kids being kids. He is in my husband’s hands. I know he’s OK. If people were in that situation, if they had a husband like mine, they would feel comfortable.”
