One last fitting!

Many assumed that Amal Alamuddin would choose Alexander McQueen to design her wedding gown for her Sept. 27 nuptials to George Clooney, but the human rights lawyer had a few tricks up her bustle.

Alamuddin, 36, actually tapped Oscar de la Renta to design her stunning wedding gown, an off-the-shoulder, ivory beaded-tulle confection.

“He is the man every woman wants to hug!” Alamuddin told Vogue of the designer. “George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress.”

De la Renta didn't take the task lightly. "It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman,” he told Vogue. “Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her."

That did not mean that de la Renta held all of the responsibility for creating the wedding dress. “Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked,” he said. “That gave me the idea of what she wanted.”
